Answering the call

Dear friends and family,

We wanted to let you know that we have finished our 14 day quarantine after arriving back home from Sierra Leone on March 21st. No sooner had we finished the quarantine, than we received a call asking if we would be willing to serve with Samaritan’s Purse in their efforts to care for COVID-19 patients. We were not totally surprised by this request. We have been in contact with Samaritan’s Purse since last September, when we attended their conference in Orlando, Florida. During that conference, SP presented the opportunity to serve with their “Disaster Assistance Response Teams”, (DART).

After praying about our next steps, we decided at that time to apply and to make ourselves available. Knowing that we would be coming back from Sierra Leone for two months in April and May, we thought that we might be asked by Samaritan’s Purse to help in some way, but of course, COVID-19 was never on our radar. We will be leaving on Friday, April 10th, and have committed to help until May 1st, with an option to stay longer if the need, and our stamina, continue.

We would ask that you please join us in this ministry by praying for us to have strength, both physical and emotional, to help as many as we can. We know that you have been praying for the sick, and we would ask you to continue to pray that they would recover. Our greatest desire is to be the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus to those we serve. We would also ask that you would please pray for our four adult children and their spouses. Five of them are medical, and are also on the front lines of this pandemic.

As we go, we are keeping our minds stayed on Him, so as to experience His perfect peace. Psalm 91 has been a particular source of strength.

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” …

For His Glory!

Cathy and Richard

    1. Hi Mark. Appreciate your prayers. We are in NYC. Will be working in a new unit inside Mount Sinai Hospital. SP set up their field hospital to help with overflow from Mount Sinai. Now Mount Sinai is full and they’ve built a 65 bed unit in their lobby. They’ve asked SP to staff it. We will be part of that team.
